February is going to be a busy month for HBO. Between the return of Girls and the premiere of new show, Vinyl, winter is going to be a pretty good month to have a HBO subscription. Speaking of Vinyl, HBO released a new trailer for the series which takes place in the 70’s and has the rabid drug use to prove it. You can check out the trailer below:

Vinyl comes from Executive Producers Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, both of whom know a thing or two about rock music in the 70’s. From the two trailers the have been released so far, Vinyl looks to be walking the fine-line of drama and comedy. The sacred art of dramadey, if you will. Sage viewers will notice a scene featuring David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust era complete with backing band, The Spiders from Mars.

There’s also a two-second (or less) shot of a guitarist that appears to be a stand-in for Jimmy Page. There has been a serious lack of music related series for the past few years, but it’s a niche drama that has suddenly been exploding. There is now VinylSex, Drugs & Rock and Roll on FX, and Fox’s crazy-hit, Empire.

It’s not a bad time to be a music lover. Is it enough now be considered a fad?

One name that might not be instantly recognizable to some people is Terance Winter, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hold his own with the other talent. Winter is responsible for Boardwalk Empire, and he was an Executive Producer on The Sopranos. It would almost take a true disaster for this show to bomb.

Vinyl’s pedigree guaranteed that I’d be watching it from the get-go, but I’m also a sucker for David Bowie. A chance to see some actors as Bowie and his band during his Ziggy period? Yes, please.

Vinyl will premiere on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, next year.
