The Game of Thrones’ Celebration for Season Five Begins Today

HBO has something planned for the release of Game of Thrones season five, and the festivities begin today.

Game of Thrones comes back next month, but HBO has designed it so that fans will be talking about Game of Thrones nonstop all the way until then. The season five Blu-Ray has just released, and to celebrate HBO has put together a special celebration. Of dragons.

As of today, a dragon has appeared in Union Square in New York City and at Hollywood and Highline in Los Angeles. This will culminate in an assumedly awesome event for the fans at Herald Square, also in New York City. You can see a pic of the setup below:

According to a HBO press release, there will be a twenty-minute feature called “The Dance of Dragons.” The main show will take place at 7:30 this evening, so that gives you about two hours to get to New York.

Season five of Game of Thrones was a little dragon heavy, especially with Tyrion seeing them for the first time. If any season is going to get the dragon treatment, it makes sense for it to be the fifth season. Dragons are such a huge part of Game of Thrones even though half the cast hasn’t even laid eyes on them. Yet.

Anyone heading out to the festivities are urged to use the hashtag #GOT5DVD to properly celebrate. Also, make sure to let us know how it goes as we won’t be in attendance. Season six of Game of Thrones begins on April 24th.

While this celebration is nice, it pales in comparison to the last New York-based fan event, which was held for season four at the Barclay’s Center and featured George R.R. Martin and the premiere of the first episode of the season.
