Are There Too Many Game of Thrones Talk Shows?

Have we reached critical mass on the Game of Thrones post-show talks?

Game of Thrones is the biggest show that HBO has ever undertaken. That can be measured in worldwide popularity, cultural saturation, and financial spending. Game of Thrones is also getting ready to throw in the towel, as there are, at most, two seasons left at this point.

It took a long time, all things considered, by everyone and their bother now has their own Game of Thrones talk show or podcast. Some of these air as soon as a new episode is over, or close to it, like HBO’s own After the Thrones. That particular show comes from the team behind the popular podcast, Watch the Thrones.

Entertainment Weekly also started their own Game of Thrones podcast this season. The playing field is officially overstuffed with talk about Game of Thrones, but the heavy hitters only recently began playing the game. This is began thanks to The Walking Dead’s wildly successful Talking Dead, and now feels inescapable.

But at this point, how much is there to actually talk about when it comes to Game of Thrones? This is the kind of the show that has deserved this amount of attention from the get-go, not in its sixth season. If it happened earlier it might have felt fresh, but at this point it begs the question “so, why now?”

How does one Game of Thrones talk program differentiate itself from the other? Personality of the host(s) is bound to play a large point, but the people who were interested in this sort of thing likely have already dug-in with their program of choice and did so long ago.

Next: HBO is ready to bring you All The Way.

Game of Thrones has, at most, two seasons season left. Whether or not the new podcasts and shows will actually hang around has yet to be determined. For what it’s worth, After the Thrones currently has a 5.4 on IMDB.
