Curb Your Enthusiasm is Returning for a Ninth Season

Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm is actually, really, coming back.

Curb Your Enthusiasm was one of HBO’s all-time famous comedies. Like many of their other great series, when it ended, it was a bit of an event. Curb Your Enthusiasm was famous for combining David’s love of improv with the sensibilities previously showcased on Seinfeld. And then, of course, running wild with them.

A few days ago a report surfaced that Larry David was interest in reviving the hit show, but there wasn’t really anything to go on at that point. It was an off-hand comment made to a friend, nothing more. Apparently that’s no longer the case, as HBO has announced that Curb Your Enthusiasm is officially being revived for a ninth season.

More from HBO

Even though the groundwork for this was already in place due to David’s comments, it’s still something of a surprise. It’s not at all uncommon for actors or creator to talk about returning to projects only to have nothing come of it. As of right now there is nothing more to so share about the new season besides the fact that it’s actually happening. No premiere date, no returning actors, nothing.

Larry David was his charmingly quotable self when he explained the reason for the return: “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’” Excellent. It’s technically unclear how long this has actually been in the works. It’s fully possible that David let it slip that he wanted more Curb Your Enthusiasm because there was already more in the making.

The end result, however, is the same. Larry David is returning to TV under the care of new HBO head, Casey Bloys. That’s a pretty fantastic way to start your tenure as head of programming, don’t you think?
