HBO has premiered the first trailer for Looking: The Movie, the feature that is set to tie up the series.

HBO’s series, Looking, the only series on the network focusing on gay relationships, was canceled after two seasons not too long ago. The series did well, but it was obvious that it was going to be the sort of production that needed to grow to full reach its potential. Unfortunately it wasn’t given that chance.

It will, however, be getting a movie in order to tie up the loose ends. Looking: The Movie, will take place after the second season in order to end the series. HBO recently released the first trailer. Take a look:

The trailer is filled with painful reunions that take place around an upcoming wedding. Few series get the chance to wrap up this way, and Looking: The Movie looks like it’s going to be able to do right by fans of the series, and is helmed by the original creator. Looking wasn’t able to get the ratings necessary to keep it on the air, despite a strong critical reception.

Shows that follow normal life, albeit with a slight dramatic flair, have proven to not do well on HBO. Or, to be more accurate, on television as a whole. It would be interesting to see what would have happened to Looking if it was on a streaming platform that wouldn’t necessarily be the mercy of ratings. Would Looking have gotten a third season if it was on Netflix or Amazon? Maybe, but we’ll never know.

Fans have to be thankful for what they can get, for better or worse. Looking: The Movie will premiere on July 23rd. Would a movie for Togetherness be too much to ask for at this point? Probably.
