HBO has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedy, Insecure

HBO has been trying to beef up its fall lineup, comedy and drama alike. Westworld is going to premiere sometime this fall and could prove to be huge for HBO, but there isn’t as clear a winner for its comedies. There are multiple new comedies coming later this year, including Sarah Jessica Parker’s Divorce.

Also joining the party is Insecure, a new show from Issa Rae. HBO has premiered the first trailer for Insecure, which you can check out below.

More from HBO

Issa Rae stars as a teacher struggling with her identity as a black woman. The trailer hits it out of the park, but that’s not necessarily indicative of success. HBO doesn’t really have a show like Insecure right now, and Rae has already proved herself with the award-winner The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. Like all of the other shows coming later this year, there is no date yet for Insecure.

HBO is going to need a more down to earth comedy to take the place of Girls, which is ending next year. That gives Insecure a little time to make a case for itself, though HBO hasn’t been too patient with letting shows grow as of late. With so many coals in the fire, hopefully one of them will turn out to be a hit. Divorce has the edge because it involves Sarah Jessica Parker, but Insecure could turn out to be the better show.

Next: Matthew McConaughey wants to return to True Detective.

Insecure will also star Yvonne Orji, a relative newcomer. Insecure will consist of eight episodes to start, but there’s always room for growth. Outside of this summer’s Vice Principals, HBO’s upcoming class of comedies have a different feel about them. They’re more real, more reality oriented. It’s not clear whether or not that will end up paying off.
