Will Game of Thrones Have Another Villain like Ramsay?

Game of Thrones is nearing the end. Is there room for another Joffery wannabe?

The sixth season finale of Game of Thrones is right around the corner. The most recent despicable villain, Ramsay, was dispatched in the last episode. What that really mans is that in “The Winds of Winter,” the main characters of Game of Thrones are going to have to deal with each other. There’s no other looming bad guy. Except, of course, for the painfully patient White Walkers.

Game of Thrones has been putting off the final confrontation for a long time. It’s always been about the Iron Throne, and if not, ruling in general. It’s taken a long time to get to where we are now. The “game,” is Tyrion refers to it as, is in full swing. That ostensibly means that there is no more room for side villains like Ramsay, or even Joffery. Game of Thrones has to get down to the business of wrapping up the core storylines it started five season ago.

It’s likely that “The Winds of Winter” will bring things to a head, and we can see some of that in the preview. Joffery and Ramsay were both important pieces to the original puzzle, but they both ended up being distractions. With only seven confirmed episodes left, it’s high time for Daenerys to bring her dragons to Westeros. It’s also easy to forget that she isn’t aware of the looming White Walker army, so it will be interesting to see how she handles that.

It’s possible that the houses of Westeros will temporarily form an alliance in order to deal with the White Walkers. The White Walkers, except for when episodes have focused on them, have been in the background for the entire series. They have rarely ever felt like a serious threat, mostly because they take so long to act. That will change, if only because it has to.

Next: The Winds of Winter are finally here.

Game of Thrones is now down to its bare bones. Whether or not it can succeed is another question entirely.
