HBO pulls in multiple nominations

HBO has historically been something of a powerhouse when it comes to award season. After the rise of both Netflix and Amazon, things have started to change. HBO no longer dominates like it used to, and competition is tougher than ever. The 2016 Emmy awards continue that pattern, even though HBO has still pulled in a healthy amount of nominations. It by no means guarantees the highest amount of wins.

Still, there are a few major categories in which HBO has no nominations. That includes both Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama. To be fair, outside of Game of Thrones, there’s not that much that HBO has to offer in those categories. That could change eventually with The Night Of, but it is what it is for now. Here is a list of some of the more major awards that HBO is nominated for:

More from HBO

  • Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) for Lead Actor in a Comedy
  • Julia Louis-Drefyus (Veep) for Lead Actress in a Comedy
  • Veep and Silicon Valley for Best Comedy Series
  • Game of Thrones for Best Drama Series
  • All The Way and Confirmation for Best TV Movie
  • Tony Hale and Matt Walsh for (Veep) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
  • Peter Dinklage and Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama
  • Anna Chlumsky (Veep) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy
  • Lena Headey, Massie Williams, and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama
  • Melissa Leo (All The Way) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Seres or Movie

Next: There will be a Game of Thrones scavenger hunt at SDCC.

That’s nothing to sneeze at, but it’s not remarkable either, especially up against the likes of Mr. Robot and House of Cards. The one category that HBO blows away is Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama, with three well-deserved nominations. If nobody else, Massie Williams deserves that Emmy.

You can check out the entire nomination list here. The Emmy’s will take place on September 18th.
