Naz has made a deacon not to back down

The fifth episode of The Night Of is right around the corner, and it will bring the series into its second half. The first half so far has done an excellent job at keeping tone and moving things along at its own pace. Now, however, it looks like The Night Of is going to heat up a bit. Also, Naz is going to get beefy.

Watching Naz work out in his cell basically tells us that he has chosen to not back down. It turns out that he’s not such a fan of getting hot baby oil thrown on him or stabbed. Crazy, right? Freddy seems to like this new side of him while Box continues to put the squeeze on him. This looks to be the first episode in which the case is truly being investigated, and it could lead to some revelations that work out in Naz’s favor. Not that the odds are on his side.

The episode is titled “The Season of the Witch,” which at this point is a bit too vague to gleam its meaning. Andrea could be the witch in question, though perhaps that would be too obvious. We also get a quick look at john reiterating his line about how important the case is and how Naz’s life hangs in the balance. We don’t get to check in with Naz’s parents and there is no new eczema report, though both of those will probably be in the actual episode. It wouldn’t be The Night Of without eczema.

Next: Does The Night Of have enough time for a real conclusion?

Naz’s relationship with Freddy looks to be deepening, something which really could end up going way. We don’t know just how powerful or dangerous Freddy is just yet or what he is actually going to require of Naz when all is said and done. Even if Naz is eventually deemed to be innocent, he could still end up in trouble with Freddy. After all, The Night Of refuses to cut a clear path.
