The Late Late Show Transforms McBride into Kenny G

It’s well-known at this point that The Late Late Show is pretty much late night’s party series. It’s a fun, light-hearted time that generally doesn’t get as deep or political as, say, Colbert does on The Late Show. Corden is, after all, the man behind the mega-hit carpool karaoke. Last night Danny McBride took to The Late Late Show to promote Vice Principals. Also to dress up as jazzman Kenny G.

We were wondering what sort of shenanigans Corden would put McBride up to, though we weren’t quite expecting something like this. McBride wailing away on a sax with a wig, however, is perfectly in his wheelhouse. The skit is supposed to be a spoof on the 1990 Grammy awards, and even has that old TV dullness to the picture. All in all, well done.

The Late Late Show isn’t the be best place to go to discuss actual work, so it’s a good thing that Walton Goggins has been going around the other late night shows. It’s also worth noting that McBride is in Sausage Party, so there’s likely some cross-promotion going on.

Vice Principals hasn’t been a mega-hit for HBO, though it has performed solidly. The first season, which wraps up on September 18th, has so far been relatively hit or miss. The best moments are those that pit McBride against Goggins, or at least have Goggins fly off the handle. Vice Principals likely isn’t a that much of a priory in terms of promotion for HBO, especially compared to larger shows like Westworld.

The second season of Vice Principals will run for the same amount of episodes (9) and then it will be time to move on.
