Vince Gilligan is Moving to HBO
HBO nabs Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad
If there is one thing that is true in the current television, it’s this: Vince Gilligan is a superstar. The ex X-Files writer and creator of Breaking Bad is one of the hottest creatives currently working in television. Breaking Bad started as a cult show that blew up to insane proportions, cementing AMC as a place for excellent television. And then there was Better Call Saul, which is a beast all its own.
Westworld is the next great series to look forward to, but HBO has another trick up its sleeve. According to Deadline, Vince Gilligan will write and produce Raven, a series about Jim Jones, leader of the infamous cult. Gilligan is more than just a gun for hire here that was called in to produce — his writing will make this a full-on Vince Gilligan gig.

HBO is currently describing Raven as a limited series, so this isn’t Vince Gilligan turning to HBO for a full-time commitment. Think something more in line with The Night Of. Raven will track The People’s Temple from its inception to its eventual, horrible downfall. Gilligan will reteam with director Michelle McLaren, who he worked with on Breaking Bad.
Raven will be produced by Octavia Spencer and based on the book, Raven: The Untold Story of Jim Jones and His People. There is no other information floating around about Raven just yet, but for now the announcement is more than enough. The episode count will probably float around the 8-10 mark as a limited series. Make no mistake, Vince Gilligan on HBO is a huge deal.

This is going to be a project that HBO is going to want to heavily promote when the time comes, though we’re still a ways off from that. If Vince Gilligan can bring even half of the force of Breaking Bad, Raven will be something to look out for.
