Westworld’s Jimmi Simpson Talks About William and Logan
Jimmi Simpson unpacks his character, William, as well as his jerk friend, Logan.
Episode after episode Westworld has been able to reliably build up it characters, fleshing them out and adding more to their backstories. That’s an impressive feat considering how much is actually going on and how many little story elements there are to keep track of. So far, William (played by Jimmi Simpson) has come across as the most relatable non-Host character — and the one we want to spend the most time with.
That’s all in the design. According to an interview with Variety — they’ve been making the cast rounds lately — Jimmi Simpson opened up about William and his relationship with Westworld. Simpson is well aware that William is a stand-in for the viewer at this point, and that link is there because, in a manner of speaking, William isn’t an entitled snot.
"“…I think most of us are more like William than Logan. Most of us aren’t handed everything. So we all are trained to pay attention before we make moves and figure out our surroundings. That’s what William’s doing, and that’s what most of us would do.”"

William is the most dynamic human character on the show; the only that seems to be going anywhere. It of course helps that he’s in the thick of it while most of the other humans are in the background. Simpson also has something to add concerning Logan and why her’s such a jerk. This is a question that we have also pondered.
"“It’s about that degree of entitlement being turned up. We all know someone who has always had everything they wanted, and some of those people are completely unable to see everyone else around them. All they’re able to do is indulge themselves. When Logan steps into the park he takes it to another level. He doesn’t even feel the need to be polite, because it’s not the real world.”"
That sums it up pretty well. Logan truly treats Westwold like a video game, and he feels free to do whatever he wants. He will also be William’s brother-in-law, so he holds a certain power over him. Simpson also touches on the video game point later on, agree that the show is something of a metaphor for the morality of video games.
