HBO has Scheduled Bright Lights, the Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher Documentary
Bright Lights will premiere in January, after being delayed due to the deaths of both Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.
It was a shock to not only lose Carrie Fisher, but just a day later her mother, Debbie Reynolds. It’s the sort of thing that would be scoffed at if it was in a book or movie. HBO released a statement on the passing of Carrie Fisher, whom they worked with on Wishful Drinking. They also chose to not immediately set a premiere date for Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. That has changed, and we can now expect the documentary at the beginning of January
To be specific, Bright Lights will premiere on January 7th at 8:00 p.m. EST. The documentary tracks the close relationship of Fisher and her mother and will feature family home movies and more modern footage, mostly shot last year. HBO’s press release is written in present tense, which is just another hint as to how sudden this all was.

Bright Lights has been described as a mother-daughter love story, and even without seeing it that it’s impossible to argue with. The close, unique relationship that Fisher and Reynolds had has been no secret. And it makes their passing all the more heartbreaking.
In honor of Carrie Fisher, HBO will rerun Wishful Drinking, her stage performance based on the book of the same name. Wishful Drinking will run January 1st at 9:00 p.m. EST, though it’s currently available on both HBO Go and HBO Now if you don’t think you’ll be available around that time.

It’s a little strange that just recently HBO was not able to commit to a release date for Bright Lights, stating that they wished to be respectful and that the deaths had taken a huge toll on the filmmakers. Maybe in this case, sooner would truly be better than later.
