HBO’s Sharp Objects Films in March

HBO confirmed the shooting schedule for the Gillian Flynn adaptation

It’s been three years since David Fincher adapted Gillian Flynn’s Gone, Girl for the big screen. That book was arguably her breakout into true mainstream success, and there was talk at the time to adapt more of her novels. That didn’t end up going anywhere, but eventually HBO picked up the novel Sharp Objects for a series. A series starring Amy Adams, that is.

According to Collider, Sharp Objects will begin filming in March. Adams will star as Camille Preaker, a journalist who travels back to her home town to report on a string of murders. Preaker spent time in a psychiatric hospital after the death of her sister. Adams is the only confirmed cast member, but that will change soon enough if filming is really going to kick off in March.

The series, which HBO has picked up for 8 episodes, is being spearheaded my Marti Noxon, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame. Well, and also The Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce and UnREAL, to be fair.

Director Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild, Dallas Buyer’s Club, Big Little Lies,) told Collider broke it all down:

"I committed to that before Big Little Lies. I was working with Amy Adams on the Janis [Joplin] project that we’re finally not doing, and she invited me to play in her new sandbox, doing a TV series. And then, Reese [Witherspoon] came and said, ‘I want you to come do this first, since that’s not ready.’ I said to Reese, ‘Okay, I’ll do Episodes 1 and 2 because I won’t have time [to do more]. I have to do Sharp Objects.’"

There you have it. Sharp Objects is so far not being billed as a limited series, so that ostensibly means it could go on for a few years. We’re excited to see what finally comes of it, even if it’s not going to be for another year or more. At least in 2018 we’ll also have Westworld back, so the wait feels like it has a little bonus at the end of it.
