Damon Lindelof Talks About the Past and Future of The Leftovers

In a massive interview, writer and showrunner Damon Lindelof talks about The Leftovers
For anyone that isn’t yet aware, The Leftovers is ending after its third season. While that’s not really something to be happy about, the fact that it was announced will hopefully give fans some time to prepare their goodbyes and for the writers to put together a fitting finale. That’s not really possible when the cancellation is sudden, or when it’s not well planned out.

In a great interview with Inverse, Damon Lindelof talks about ending The Leftovers, among many other things. It’s a huge interview that has a lot to digest, but The Leftovers is the main focus. Besides spending time on gong over the themes of the past two seasons. Unlike many other showrunners, Lindelof gives some teases of what’s to come, so if you’re adverse to spoilers of any kind, consider this your official spoiler warning.

When talking about the supernatural aspects of The Leftovers, Lindelof makes it clear that is plenty more to come:
"“…there’s no getting around the fact that 140 million people vanished in thin air. That’s supernatural. So every time that you forget that the Departure happened, the show has to remind you. We’re going to hopefully do more of that in the third reason.”"
Consider that to be something of an appetizer. For those that aren’t too keen on The Leftovers’ super natural leanings, season three may not be the one for you. Also, why are you watching this show? Linedlof also gets a bit cheeky when asked about what happened to Kevin’s dog:
"“Well, since you asked, all of Season 3 is told from the dog’s point of view. He’s going to go find Cuarto and Hebert the demon hunters and he will sniff out people who are possessed, on a weekly basis. That will be our first Leftovers spinoff.”"
Nothing wrong with that. The entire interview is worth a read, if only just to find out how Damon Lindelof feels about his reputation. Here’s a taste: “That’s so cool that you think I have the power to ruin Alien!”
