Evan Rachel Wood calls Westworld a “revolution”

HBO is getting ready to do for sci-fi what it has already one with fantasy. Well, to be fair, there is some wishful thinking in that statement. Westworld was finally announced to premiere in the fall, though it doesn’t technically have a strict date yet. All eyes are back on Westworld after being out of the spotlight for some time.

Evan Rachel Wood sat down with Collider at the premiere of her new movie, Into the Forest. It turns out that she’s pretty keyed up to talk about Westworld, which is good for everyone involved. For Starters, Wood is pleased that people know so little about the show:

"“I’m also tickled at how little people know. All the expectations and the guesses I’ve heard are not even in the ball park…All of the action, and the Wild West fun, crazy, HBO stuff is in there and it’s all amazing, but what separates the show is that it’s an existential drama.”"

One of the many things that Westworld is about is the age-old struggle for identity between robots and humans. That may not come across so strongly in the trailer, which does its best to show the scope of the series.

Now, isn’t that something?

She also added that the show “leaves me looking at the world around me in a new way.” That’s a powerful sentiment. It’s always catching when an actor is this excited about a project that they’re doing. Apparently this is also her favorite character out of her entire career. It’s obvious that Westworld is near and dear to her heart, even with the difficulty of getting it on the air.

Westworld could do huge things for sci-fi on television, and huge things for HBO in general if it can even touch the popularity of Game of Thrones. There are many sic-fi fans out there — a market that HBO has yet to take advantage of. This is the show that’s going to take over the fall season.
