A friendly reminder that Riz Ahmed is British

The Night Of recently aired its finale, and though we had some issues with it — and the series as a whole — the high point comes from Riz Ahmed as Naz. Ahmed had to play a character that was largely inscrutable, and he did so expertly. To talk about his life and his experience with The Night Of, Riz Ahmed went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Okay, so, there’s not all that much about The Night Of. Right off the bat Colbert admits to enjoying the series but that he hasn’t seen the finale, so there is no clip to show. Fans looking to get more insight into The Night Of would do better to go back to Ahmed’s Twitter Q&A. There is a fun little anecdote about Ahmed not being familiar with the creators of The Night Of and basically auditioning blind outside of having read the script.

There’s more in the interview about his being British, which will likely come as a surprise to some people. They also touch on Rogue One, though Riz Ahmed is under strict lock and key with that one. Ahmed also gets to show off his rap skills a bit, for those that weren’t convinced of his many talents.

Hopefully The Night Of won’t be the kind of show that just slips away now that it’s over. There really is little chance of that happening once next year’s Emmy’s role around, as it’s a fair bet that The Night Of will be at least score several nominations. Still, that’s a while from now, as the 2016 Emmy’s haven’t even happened yet.

Next: The new Westworld trailer is beautiful.

The Night Of helped make Riz Ahmed a real star, and now that he’s going to be in Star Wars, it’s practically set in stone.
