The Young Popfeatures Jude Law as a fictional pope

HBO has new upcoming project that hasn’t exactly been getting a lot of attention. Tuning into HBO on Sunday night, trailers for new shows like Westworld and Divorce can be seen multiple times. That’s HBO’s primetime, after all, and it wants to show off the goods. One new series that hasn’t been getting the same treatment is The Young Pope starring Jude Law. That’s right.

There’s a new trailer that recently premiered on Sky Atlantic, showing off Law as Lenny Berardo, that is, Pope Pius XIII:

More from HBO

The Young Pope looks to be the Vatican version of House of Cards. We have an egotistical man, power-hungry man with a religious bent. What could possibly go wrong? Oh, and there’s Diane Keaton and James Cromwell. There’s something a little campy going on in the trailer, especially when Law tries to pull a full Francis Underwood and break the fourth wall. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The Young Pope is a miniseries that will run or 10 episodes and is directed by Paolo Sorrentino. The reason that it hasn’t been getting much promotion here is that it’s a production of multiple networks, and HBO is only a part of it. It’s not technically a HBO series the way that Westworld will be, though it will be distributed by them.

Next: The Night Of had no idea what to do with Chandra.

There is no premiere date yet for The Young Popin the states, though October would be a safe bet if we were to go on the dates for other regions. It’s not like HBO doesn’t already have enough on its plate this October, what with Westworld, Divorce, and Insecure.

By the way, you have seen the newest Westworld trailer, yes?
