Westworld will take Over Television

Westworld is going to be huge, there’s no stopping it

Game of Thrones is only of the most popular shows ever produced, but there are some that balk at its mix of fantasy, violence, and sex. You may have met some of these people. Now that Westworld is right around the corner, those same people may balk and HBO’s take on sci-fi. Genre television isn’t everyone’s thing, after all. They might be forgiven, however, because not only is Westworld going toe huge, it’s going to be as in their face as Game of Thrones is.

Westworld is going to television’s next big thing. There’s just no escaping it, and there’s not a more eloquent way to put it. It’s a perfect storm of expectation, marketing, and excellent early reviews. The excitement around this show is practically palpable. When it comes to events like Comic Con, Westworld will be the new Game of Thrones, with a show perfectly tailored to the con attending audience.

Right now there doesn’t feel like there is a ceiling on how huge this is going to get. You can be sure that conversations have already taken place on how to take this to the next level, weeks before the series has even premiered. HBO doesn’t need to build more hype by releasing an episode early for streaming like they recently did with Insecure — if you’ve been following this show, you are going to watch.

This all means that Westworld is at risk for overexposure (see first paragraph,) but if the show is as good as the early reviews pin it as, it can overcome that hurdle. If it’s as big of a ratings hit as it’s as expected to be, there will be trailers and posters everywhere — assuming there aren’t already.

HBO knows that they have something special on their hands, and they’re also aware how difficult it was to get it off the ground. Suffice to say, the next few years of Emmy awards are going to look very interesting.
