Insecure’s Issa Rae took to Fallon to talk about her new show and past work

Issa Rae is set to become  a full-on star with the premiere of her new show, Insecure. The series will be HBO’s first to no only helmed by a black woman, but also about the modern American black experience. Insecure doesn’t actually premiere until this Sunday, October 9th, but the first episode has been up for streaming for the past couple of weeks.

Issa Rae has been on the cusp of stardom for some time, going back to her YouTube series Awkward Black Girl. Rae discussed her humble beginnings and running into Jimmy Fallon backstage while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:

Basically Rae just seems like a really cool person to hang out with. The interview isn’t heavy on Insecure info, but the premiere is only a few days away and there isn’t all that much left to explain ahead of time. Hopefully Insecure will really be the thing to make Issa Rae more of a household name, and that’s the way the tide seems to be going so far.

As a bit of a bonus clip, Fallon also quizzed Rae on other YouTube stars as well as her favorite apps and internet related things.

Check that out below:

Rae’s career was born on the internet, so the pop quiz makes sense here. Her answer to who her favorite person to follow on Twitter is Mahershala Ali, who currently plays Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes on Luke Cage. He also plays Remi Danton on House of Cards. So, yeah, basically she gave a perfect answer.

Next: Westworld means business at NYCC.

Insecure premieres October 9th at 10:30 EST, just after Sarah Jessica Parker’s Divorce. An all of that after a new episode of Westworld. It’s going to be quite a night.
