Watch James Marsden Discuss Westworld and Being Handsome

James Marsden talks Westworld philosophy and being yelled at by fans.

It was only a matter of time until we got James Marsden hitting the late night circuit for Westworld. Both Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton have already been on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, so it’s nice to complete the set with Marsden. And yes, he’s very well aware that there is philosophy at play in the show. Colbert was careful at the beginning to once again state that he was a few episodes behind, so don’t expect any in-depth details.

It’s good to know that fans of Westworld question James Marsden’s humanity rather than bringing up how many times his character, Teddy, as died. It would have been a nice point for Colbert to at least touch on, but oh well. Philosophy and Westworld also go hand-in-hand, and it’s obvious that the show is going to continue questioning what it means to actually be a human being when you’re free to behave however you like.

Make sure to stick around for the end to hear a fantastic impression of Matthew McConaughey. Marsden rightly points out that it’s too easy to simply rest on the “alright, alright, alright.” If you’re going to do McConaughey, you really have to go for it. And he really goes for it. Again, there are no hints here as to where the rest of the season is going. There are, however, only two episodes left so it’s not like we’re going to have to wait too long to figure that out for ourselves.

Funnily enough, the biggest round of applause comes when Marsden says that he played Nintendo 64 last night. Take note: classic game consoles will also be more popular than TV. Tap into people’s nostalgia, and you’re gold. There’s also probably something in there about making a more believable Host, but that’s not our job.
