The third and final season of The Leftovers will premiere in April, missing the busy winter schedule.

The Leftovers has never been a huge success for HBO. Its ratings haven’t been stellar, and it hasn’t raked in awards like HBO dramas tend to. It did, however, win a Peabody Award. So there’s that. Despite becoming critically acclaimed in its second season, The Leftovers will end after season 3. At least we now know when to look forward to a new season, as HBO has announced that the show will return in April of 2017.

The official Twitter account for the show also posted a special message from the creators, Damon Lindelof and author Tom Perrota.

The message is a cute clip based on the idea of the Guilty Remnant, a cult in the series whose members do not speak and cut family ties. Outside of the actual premiere mont of April (there is no specific date yet) there is no other information to go. No hints as to what season 3 will be about or when we can expect a teaser trailer. This is the first we’ve heard from The Leftovers in some time, and most of HBO’s attention lately has been on Westworld.

Next: HBO's 2017 hype trailer has some new footage.

The Leftovers isn’t exactly a feel good show, something which surely added to its cult status. While it’s disappointing that The Leftovers won’t be ready for the Winter schedule, it is exciting to finally know when it’s coming back. Considering that we’ve several months away from season 3, it would be wise not to expect a trailer anytime soon. HBO likely wants to keep the focus on the shows that are coming soonest, which include Big Little Lies and the final season of Girls.
