HBO Scores 14 Golden Globe Nominations, more than any Other Network
HBO proves to be the king of the Golden Globe Awards, killing the competition.
HBO has a reputation for raking in both award nominations and wins. Recent years has brought that reputation into question, but the Golden Globes are here to remind us that HBO’s reign isn’t quite over yet. The nominations for the 2017 ceremony are now in, and HBO is leading the pack with 14 delicious nominations.
This is especially big news for The Night Of and Westworld, both of which are nominated for three awards. Here is the full list:
- The Night Of for Best Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
- Riz Ahmed and John Turturro for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
- Westworld and Game of Thrones for Best Television Drama
- Evan Rachel Wood for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series
- Thandie Newton and Lena Headey for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
- Veep for Best Musical or Comedy
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Issa Rae, and Sarah Jessica Parker for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy
- Bryan Cranston for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
- Kerry Washington for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Quite a list. There are some double-dips here, but it’s not as bad as it was with the Critic’s Choice Awards. The thoughts competition that HBO is going to have to face isn’t itself (for the most part,) but other shows. That particular list includes Mr. Robot, Stranger Things, and American Crime Story: The People vs. O. J. Simpson. Stranger Things, by the way, is fantastic and you should watch it. Anyway, it’s truly great to finally see some love for The Night Of and some more love for Westworld.
Game of Thrones doesn’t have a great showing here, and it could very well lose in both categories that it’s nominated in. While it’s nice that both Sarah Jessica Parker and Issa Rae were nominated, there is little chance of them beating out the titan that is Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It’s just not going to happen, people.
