Sharp Objects adds two more to the cast, including a Weeds alum

It’s been a couple of years since Gone, Girl made waves, both in book form and David Fincher’s adaptation. It did, however, cement Gillian Flynn as something of a household name when it comes to suspense. HBO has had a new, series adaptation of her novel, Sharp Objects, in the works for a little while now. We previously heard that Amy Adams was joining the series, and now we have two new names to add.

More from HBO

According to Deadline, both Elizabeth Perkins and Madison Davenport are now on board. Most will likely recognize Perkins as the great Celia Hodes from Weeds, while Davenport hails from the currently airing From Disk Till Dawn: The Series, or, that vampire movie that was made into a series that you probably didn’t know about. Not a dig at Davenport – just saying. Sharp Objects is Flynn’s first novel, written in 2006, and is about a journalist who returns home who spent some time in a mental hospital.

Both Perkins and Davenport will play notable locals: Perkins as Jackie, a renown alcoholic, and Davenport as Meredith, a former cheerleader. HBO ordered Sharp Objects straight to series for an eight episode run, though HBO isn’t currently using the term “limited series” to describe it. The entire run will be helmed by Jean-Marc Vallée, who is currently directing Big Little Lies. It makes sense that HBO would tap him for this, as he has a proven track record of directing stories focused on strong women.

There’s still no word on when we’ll get to see Sharp Objects, though 2018 is the most likely candidate right now, especially considering that the cast is still being filled out. It’s worth noting that once Sharp Objects airs, all of Flynn’s novels will have been adapted in some form or another.
