The Cast of The Leftovers Spoke at Vulture Festival

The Leftovers is gearing up for its third and final season, and the principals gathered for a panel at Vulture Fest.

The Leftovers never really found a home at HBO. The series is oppressively dark with hints of Six Feet Under, but more apocalyptic. The ratings have never been strong, and when it was announced that season three would be the end there was little surprise. The Leftovers never caught on with viewers, but at least it will have a proper ending.

Vulture Fest is a media festival that hosts various panels, and this year featured some of the people behind The Leftovers, including Justin Theroux, Ann Dowd, and Damon Linedlof. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the third season, and the entire cast might not even be returning for it. While they were mum on most details, the cast opened up about what it’s been like working on The Leftovers so far.

Check out this recap of season one:

More from HBO

Fan site Watching The Leftovers put together a list of some of the more fun and important takeaways from the panel, including that awesome karaoke scene in the season two finale. Oh, and Justin Theroux ended up having to go to the ER.

All in all it sounds like it was a fun time, even if it was light on any real details for season three. Damon Lindelof said that The Leftovers isn’t about cliffhangers, but about feelings. That jives with earlier comments he has made, and puts the heavy atmosphere of the show into focus.

Next: HBO has three new comedies coming this fall.

You can read all of the tidbits over at Watching The Leftovers. While it’s sad that The Leftovers is ending after only three seasons, at least it’s on its own terms. Hopefully it will have an ending that won’t put fans in a frenzy.

Unless it’s because of how awesome and fitting it end up being. Then it’s okay.
