HBO Dominates Creative Arts Emmys

The Creative Arts Emmys have been kind to HBO

HBO was able to pull in a massive amount of Emmy nominations this year, with Game of Thrones unsurprisingly leading the pack. Some of those awards won’t be handed out on camera next weekend during the big ceremony; they’ve actually already been awarded. The first part of the Creative Arts Emmys were last night, and HBO did very well for itself.

Game of Thrones itself pulled in seven different awards, including Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and Outstanding Costumes for a Period/Fantasy Series. It kind of had that second one in the bag, in all fairness. Game of Thrones wasn’t the only winner for HBO, as Veep won for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series and Girls’ (!!!) Peter Solari won for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. That’s a big deal for Girls, as the series has been snubbed time and time again.

More from HBO

The Creative Arts Emmys don’t get the attention that they deserve, and are usually relegated to a clip real shown during the actual Emmys. All in all HBO was able to nab eleven total Emmys, giving it a healthy head start before next Sunday’s ceremony. Game of Thrones is expected to to do very well next week a well, and it would actually be something of an upset if that didn’t occur.

For those that actually want to watch the ceremony, The Creative Arts Ceremony will be broadcast on September 17th on FXX. These are, by and large, awards that most people have little interest in. Since the Emmy ceremony is already so long, cuts have to be made. You can read a rundown of the full event here, but it’s not quite the same as actually watching it.

Next: Vince Gilligan takes to HBO.

The Creative Arts Emmys will continue tonight, and the regular Emmys will be broadcast on Sunday, the 18th.
